THE LIBERATING TRUTHS

Life often feels like a game of rules and expectations, where you’re judged for every move and held to standards you didn’t sign up for. But the real kicker? Most of those rules are made up. The truth is, you’re far more free than you let yourself believe. The trick is learning to embrace that freedom—and the truths that come with it.

“You are free to do whatever you like. You need only face the consequences.” - Sheldon B. Kopp

It’s a truth that stings—but there’s power in accepting it. Every choice you make, every path you take, comes with hurdles and consequences. Some will hurt, some will leave scars, but life moves on.

You can only walk one path at a time, which means dealing with the trade-offs it brings. There are no solutions in life, just compromises. The only questions you need to ask yourself are: What’s the price? and Is it worth paying? Freedom isn’t about avoiding consequences—it’s about embracing them.

Your Worth Isn’t Measured in Productivity

Somewhere along the way, we started treating our existence like a ledger: work in, value out. Wake up, grind, repeat. It becomes a pattern—a compulsion—to justify our worth through productivity. We act as if there’s a cosmic debt for simply being alive, as if we owe the universe proof of our value through constant output. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to do this.

Yes, responsibilities exist. Bills don’t pay themselves, and tasks don’t vanish into thin air. There are things that need to be looked after. But the idea that your life’s destiny is perpetual productivity? That’s a trap. We work, not necessarily for joy or fulfilment, but often to quiet the gnawing feeling of lack.

The liberating truth is that your existence doesn’t need to be justified. You are allowed to simply be. Take care of what matters, but remember: life isn’t meant to be a series of dues paid in full every single day. Step back from the grind. You will wake up again, and the world will still be there.

You Can’t Care About Everything

In a world constantly demanding your attention, it’s easy to feel like you need to care about everything. But the truth is, you can’t—and shouldn’t.

As William James said, “The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.”

Caring about everything spreads you thin and dilutes your impact. By choosing what truly matters to you, you preserve your energy for what aligns with your values. It’s about being intentional and focused on the things that genuinely make a difference in your life.

So, let go of the pressure to engage with everything. You’re allowed to overlook things, and in doing so, you’ll live a more meaningful, centered life.

The Perfectionist's Trap: The Fear of Completion

Often we have a unique relationship with new ideas. We love starting them—it's like opening the door to endless possibilities and scenarios. There’s a certain thrill in the potential, a rush that comes from imagining all the ways things could unfold. But here’s the catch: the moment the idea becomes real, the fear sets in. There’s a worry that completing tasks will stifle the excitement of possibility and force you to confront the results—whether you like it or not.

This fear of imperfection becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The longer we avoid completion, the more our flaws and insecurities start to show. The very act of starting, which was supposed to be full of excitement, now reveals the cracks in our self-image, leaving ourselves feeling flawed, stuck, and unworthy. But here’s the truth: pushing through those feelings and doing the work is what makes it all worthwhile.

It’s not about achieving perfection. It’s about progress and growth. Yes, there will be difficult patches, moments of struggle, and times when the work doesn’t look as perfect as imagined. But these are the moments that teach the most—building resilience, learning to take the punches, and finding satisfaction not in perfection, but in the act of doing. In the end, the rewards come from sticking with it, even when it’s messy, because it’s the process that ultimately shapes the outcome.

You Can Always Start Over

Here’s a truth that’s easy to forget: you’re never as stuck as you think. Life is full of reset buttons. Quit the job. End the relationship. Move to a new city. Reinvention isn’t just possible; it’s inevitable.

The idea that you need to have it all figured out by 25 is pure fiction. Everyone’s just winging it, even the people who seem to have it together. You’re allowed to change your mind, your path, and your story as often as you like.

The Liberating Truths

The liberating truths aren’t always easy to swallow. They challenge the way you’ve been taught to think and force you to take responsibility for your life. But they also free you from the lies that keep you stuck.

You’re free to be messy, to fail, to change your mind, and to start over. You’re free to care less about what others think and more about what you feel. The only question is: What are you going to do with that freedom?
